Hourly averaged wind data show wind speed decreasing in the evening and increasing the following day by late morning.  The center plot shows hourly measurements of the surface wave non-directional spectrum.  Changes in surface wave spectral levels corresponds to changes in wind speed.  Changes in high frequency spectral levels are abrupt while changes in low frequency levels occur gradually.
